Dorm Room Chic
Going away to college is rough. For most college students, this will be their first experience living away from home. Sharing a small space with another person doesn’t provide much opportunity for that personal touch that can keep feelings of homesickness at bay.

Fortunately, there are little things you can do to fill your dorm room with warmth, so you don’t miss home quite so much. Here are a few tips and tricks.
Throw pillows are a great way to add a splash of color to a room and give it a bit of personality. They are inexpensive (and therefore college budget friendly) and they are not permanent, so you don’t have to worry about whether or not they align with college dorm regulations.
When choosing throw pillows for your room, go for ones that have a vibrant design that adds cheer. Pick one of your favorite things or animals to bring some of your personality into the décor. These elephant pillow covers are ideal…and maybe they’ll even help you to remember to study for Monday’s test!
Your college may not want you hammering holes into the walls of your dorm room, but if they are okay with it, hanging a couple of pictures is a great way to make your room look cheery. One again, you will want to use the pictures to bring in bright vibrant colors and add a personal touch. You can add pictures of your favorite celebrity, your spirit animal or something that represents a sport you love.
If you enjoy scuba diving, this Clown Fish and Anemone canvas will be the perfect thing.
A welcome mat will give your dorm room a sense of home before you even step foot inside. It will also remind all those sloppy college kids to wipe their feet before the walk in.
A door mat will not be in the interior of your home, so you don’t have to be concerned with how it complements your décor. Adding something cute and funny will be perfect for the college vibe. This welcome mat featuring a ferocious shark chomping down on a plank of wood with a dive sign is sure to put a smile on all your visitor’s faces.
Area rugs are another way to brighten up a room. They can add a splash of color and a fun vibe, plus they are a lot softer and more comfortable than a cold, hard dorm room floor. Because they are not permanent, you don’t have to worry about getting approval when adding it to your dorm room.
Although area rugs are ideal, if you don’t have the budget to afford one, a large beach towel can do the trick. They may not stay in place as well as an area rug, but they can provide versatility if you need to grab a towel for the beach or after getting out of the shower!
Going off to college is rough but having cool items in your dorm room can make the experience a lot more pleasant. Which of these would you like to add to your décor?
