If you’re a true fashionista, you probably have a lot of clothing. In fact, it may be spilling out all over your closet.
If you love your clothes but you’re tired of dealing with an avalanche situation every time you look for an outfit, it may be time for some much-needed organization. If you are wondering how to organize your closet, here are some helpful tips.
Declutter by Category
The first thing you will want to do is get rid of unwanted items. Instead of throwing everything you don’t want into one large pile, try going category by category. This way, you will be able to compare what you have and determine which items are worth keeping and which are better off in the garbage heap.
Clean Your Closet
Once you are done getting rid of unwanted items, you will want to do a deep clean. Take out whatever’s left and clean the shelves and floors of the closet.
Store Your Items According to Category
The next step is to put your clothing back according to category. For instance, you will want to put all your sundresses together, all your coats together and so on. This will make everything easy to find.
You might not have hanging space for all your items so make sure your sturdy clothes and anything that gets wrinkled easily gets priority. Suit jackets and silk blouses should definitely be hung.
On the flipside, items like jeans and bulky sweaters will work well folded. They will make for organized stacks and if you fold them on shelves, they won’t take up a lot of space in the closet.
Roll up Pajamas and Workout Clothes
Items that don’t need as much TLC like pajamas and workout clothing can be rolled up and stored in a box at the bottom of the wardrobe.
Store the Clothing You Wear the Most at Eye Level
Storing your most loved clothing at eye level will make them easy to find.
Take Advantage of Vertical Space
When storing clothing, we usually hang across jamming items in from side to side. In doing so, we neglect the vertical space we can utilize.
Storing clothing in boxes is one way to take advantage of vertical space. You can also store your shoes in racks that go up vertically from the floor or in bags that can be hung on closet doors.
Use Dividers in Your Drawers
When you stuff items in drawers, things can get disorganized. To keep this from happening, you can use dividers to keep your items apart. The dividers go in the draw and to separate your delicates, so they won’t get lost easily.
Hang Your Accessories
Scarves and belts can be hung on hangers to make them easy to find. You can also use empty wall space to hang jewelry.
Now that you know how to organize your wardrobe, will you be putting the effort in to prevent avalanche situations from occurring?
