Combat boots date back to military times, but they have become a major part of fashion. They made the transition being incorporated in alternative styles, but today, we can safely say, they are a wardrobe staple.
Some people may have trouble integrating them into more classic, feminine fashions, but if you have the right attitude, you can wear combats with just about anything. And this is terrific because they are so comfortable and durable, why wear any other type of footwear? Here are some tips that will get you headed in the right direction.
It’s All About Balance
Combat boots have a heavy, clunky look. Therefore, they are easy to balance with something more voluminous up top. For instance, they will look great with a skater skirt, wide trousers and more. If you are wearing them with tight jeans or leggings, a bulky sweater will even them out.
For Professional Looks
Thinking of wearing combat boots to the office? They may not work with a full pantsuit (although they can, depending on the style of the suit) but you will be able to pull them off better with polished separates. For example, a trousers, blazer, and dress shirt combo will have a more eclectic vibe that can be dressed down with combats while still being work-appropriate.
The Right Prints
Combat boots will go with just about anything if you wear the right prints. Items that are vaguely punk or alternative will be ideal. These include plaids, camouflage, military prints, and more.
Combat boots generally come to the ankle, but they can come up to the mid-calf, knee, or even higher. If you are wearing high combat boots, you will have to plan your outfit accordingly. They will go well over stockings, leggings, or jeans and can be worn as part of skirted, shorts, and casual looks.
Keep in mind that a high combat boot will add more bulk to the bottom of your body than an ankle boot so you will need even more bulk for up top balance. For a stylish trend, wear high stocks sticking out of the top of your high combats.
Experiment with Color
Combat boots aren’t only available in black and brown. They come in a wide variety of colors and prints. Bringing color into the mix opens many doors when it comes to styling options. You can add a pop of color on the bottom, bring color down from other parts of your outfit, or go monochrome.
The Heel is Important
Combat boots also come in a variety of heel heights. Though most have a chunky sole that will add about an inch to your height, there are plenty with heels that are two inches and more. These can appear as a wedge or a platform.
A combat boot with a thick wedge will add height but it will also add bulk to the foot area. A platform will elevate and sculpt the look of the leg making it a better choice for more elegant attire.
Is There Anything You Can’t Wear Combats With?
While combats go with most things, they won’t go well with very formal attire unless you use other elements to create a grungy look. You should be careful when wearing them with suits. And, while they may provide the perfect dichotomy for a summer dress, don’t assume they will go with everything in your wardrobe that features a slinkier cut or fabric.
Combat boots are rugged, durable, and comfortable. Now that you know how to style them, you can wear them with just about everything. How will you be adding them to your attire?
