What to Wear to a Wedding
Well, it happened. Your best friend/ cousin/ sister/ mother/ aunt/ uncle is getting married and you just got the invitation in the mail. If you’re a true fashionista, your first thought will be, what am I going to wear?
A wedding is not just any other occasion. I mean, your friend/relative is getting married. But more importantly, there will probably be plenty of pictures of you taken that day and these pictures will be shown on the internet and to your relatives and friends. It goes without saying that you will want to look your best!
With that in mind, here are some great ideas for what you can wear to a wedding.
What Kind of Wedding is It?
Before moving forward, it’s important to think about what type of wedding you will be attending. Some weddings are more casual than others and this should be considered when deciding on your attire.
Then you need to think of the theme. Of course, it’s possible that the wedding will have a theme that represents a certain decade, TV show, movie and so on and so forth. In that case, you’re on your own.
But here we are talking more about whether the wedding will be contemporary, rustic, fairy tale, rock n’roll, elegant…and the list goes on. This may not be specified on the invitation but if you want to choose an outfit that matches the theme, you can always ask the bride and groom what vibe they are going for.
Before we move onto some suggestions, let’s go over some basic don’ts.
· Don’t be overly sexy. Sure, a lot of girls and guys meet at weddings but this doesn’t mean you should be dressing as if you’re looking to hook up. Dressing in a dress that’s very low cut in the cleavage and high cut in the leg will seem disrespectful.
· Don’t be too alternative. Unless you know the wedding will have a night club vibe, try not to overdo it with goth, punk or metal looks. If this is part of who you are, think of how you can express your personality in suitable attire.
· Don’t wear white. You probably already know this one, but it’s worth mentioning!
Now that we got those out of the way, let’s take a look at some styles that will make great wedding attire.
Sexy and Strapless
A form fitting evening dress will wow at a wedding. We love this one because it provides coverage where necessary and it has an effortlessly sexy look. Its bright blue color makes it a festive choice that will make everyone feel like celebrating.
Black is always a good choice for a formal occasion, but you don’t want to look too somber. This dress is the perfect choice because it’s high slit and interesting neckline makes it fun and flirty yet completely wedding appropriate. It is also comfortable and it won’t show stains easily.
Slinky and Silver
This silver cocktail dress has more of a party vibe but its still wedding appropriate. It covers in all the right places, it’s easy to wear and it will bring everyone out to the dance floor.
Ruffle Sleeve Maxi
This is a great choice for the mother of the bride. Its long bottom makes it the ultimate in elegance and sophistication while its plunging neckline brings the sexy. The contrasting looks work together to provide a style that is timeless and chic.
Just because you’re going to a wedding, that doesn’t mean you need to wear a dress. If you are more comfortable in pants, there are formal jumpsuit looks that will provide the elegant style you are going for. The off the shoulder, layered fashion this jumpsuit provides makes it a standout style and its pink color really brings the fun.
So the next time you get that envelope in the mail, don’t panic. There are plenty of looks that will be perfect for the occasion. Which will you be wearing the next time a friend or relative decides to say I do?
